The International Folk Festival – Varna held annually for 21 years now in August has succeeded at time of dynamic changes of values to preserve and present the rich palette of our national and world folklore heritage and to be a tribune and criterion for the spiritual wealth of nations.

The Festival was founded in 1992 on the initiative of Varna Municipality. Programme and artistic profile

The accents, included in the festival programme, give an innovative approach for presenting the participants and this determines the structure of editions. The Festival is held under the motto Together Now and Forever and Staying Friends. This concept is achieved by a choreographer’s direction. Through a combination of video projection and live performances we make an imaginary Journey around the World presenting the participants and their countries.

This is a festival with a large audience. Within the festival days we have a real opportunity to touch the different cultures from all over the world and thus to achieve its goals. Just through the Festival every year we create new cultural relations which prove its social significance and impact. Besides the concerts in the Open-air Theater, as a tradition the festival programme features open stage performances focused on the local audiences in Varna districts Asparuhovo and Vladislavovo. A number of parallel events are also organized – Reunion of Nations on the Rakovina Stage; street processions and demonstrations; creative meetings – discussions with the artistic directors of participating ensembles concerning various issues of folklore art. In the same period the Crafts Fair is held as well.
